FLEECE TO FELT
During this sustainable Fleece to Felt workshop you will learn the traditional art of wet felting produce your very own hand crafted decorative rug to take home, made using raw sheep fleece clipped annully from our sheep reared on our family farm here at Oakfield.
We welcome Trish O’Meara, from Wormit Woolies along to Oakfield Farm. Trish is a local fibre artist specializing in making hand felted rugs and decorative wall hangings using natural raw fleece and will guide you through this workshop.
This is a practical workshop, we’ll get stuck into felting using warm water and soap along with a few different tools like rolling pins and paint rollers etc. This is followed by some throwing and fulling which is when the real magic happens! You will be provided with an apron along with everything else needed to create your very own one of a kind felted rug/throw. Each participant will need to bring along a couple of large towels and a bag to carry your rug home in. Trish will provide you with an instruction sheet for follow up care of your rug!
Workshop duration 4hrs.
Delicious cakes and nibbles, along with hot drinks provided throughout the duration of this workshop.

FESTIVE WREATH MAKING
On the lead up to Christmas we run festive wreath making workshops in The Barn where we will guide you using traditional methods, using foraged materials from Oakfield and surrounding areas to produce your beautiful, bespoke, seasonal & sustainable Christmas Wreath to decorate your home during the festive season.
Workshop duration 2.5hrs.

PRACTICAL LAMBING COURSE
Are you looking to gain skills and confidence lambing your own flock or get into a livestock role? Come along and learn the basics of lambing where you will get hands on experience in the lambing shed
Join us for our Adults Practical Lambing Course where we will cover the basics of lambing to get comfortable lambing own sheep flock, gain skills and confidence to enable you to move into a livestock role you have always dreamed of.
On this course you will be able to gain experience and confidence in;
- Sheep handling – safely catching and handling in lamb ewes/new lambs,
- Animal welfare – lambing related disease/illness and how to mitigate risk,
- Hand on experience of real life lambing ewes (if any in need of assistance during this course),
- Housing for lambing- looking at different farming practices during lambing depending on breeds/farms,
- Weaning,
- Legal requirements, record keeping and tagging of new stock.

PRACTICAL SHEEP SKILLS COURSE
Looking to gain practical skills and confidence working with sheep? Then come along and get hands on and learn the basics of running a sheep flock in a safe welcoming environment!
Come and join us for our Beginners Practical Sheep Skills Course where we will cover the basics to get you started with your own sheep flock or gain skills and confidence to enable you to move into a livestock role you have always dreamed of. On this course you will be able to gain experience and confidence in;
- Sheep handling – moving, penning handling for health checks,
- Animal welfare – condition scoring, weighing, teeth, foot care, dagging, tagging, dosing and injections,
- Lameness/ diseases to look out for and prevention,
- Basics on lambing/weaning,
- Legal requirements for running your own flock of sheep.
