Why We Bought Oakfield Farm
Most typical farms are handed down through generation to generation and we differ from the norm when it comes to this, Oakfield Farm has been created and built by our very own two sets of hands, it has been a real labour of love. In the autumn of 2021, having just finished a nearly 5 year renovation project on our lovely home at the time, we took a walk one evening with the children in their backpacks, decided to sell up and throw ourselves into the next project. People thought we were mad but we could see the natural, rustic, charm of the land and see past the fact there was not a fence in sight, no power connection, water or much useable land, there was a pleasant boundary of mature trees and a pond on an OS map that we had yet to find, somewhere we could imaging raising our children, livestock and call home.
Fast forward to today, and we have nearly forgotten wintering in a mobile home with two children under 2, an external generator for power…while building a farm, literally. A time in our lives we would describe as character building!
Our Farm – Our Home
Oakfield Farm is the home of the Sands family where husband and wife team, Michael & Tessa Sands run a small livestock farm based in Perthshire, Scotland.
What you see here today is fields full of sheep, turkeys roaming free in the woodlands, livery yard for 10 horses, children running free and learning about food and farming in a rustic, yet safe environment, adults being taken back to nature attending traditional skill workshops, relaxing with friends while enjoying our home made produce.
2nd time here, we just love it! My wee boy just loves being around the animals and hearing about them, looking forward to a summer tour! Thanks for a fab afternoon lamb feeding Tessa!
Oakfield Farm Turkeys
Our ethically reared, traditionally slowly produced, bronze turkeys live the proper free range life on our family farm.
Oakfield Livery Yard
Oakfield Livery Yard is a small BHS registered friendly, family run yard in Perthshire. We have space for 10 liveries on the yard, offering DIY stabled livery.
We love raising a family here, surrounded by nature, animals and appreciating the simple things in life. We have plenty exciting ventures planned here at Oakfield and take great pleasure from sharing this wonderful place we get to call home with you all.
